Fellowship of Reconciliation: for a World of Peace, Justice and Nonviolence
Mid-Missouri Fellowship of Reconciliation
The Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) is a group composed of people from many faiths, and no particular faith --
all coming together to support nonviolence and justice.
Offering people of conscience an action response to a morally-impaired U.S. foreign policy.

A Report on the Injustice in the Application of the Death Penalty in Missouri (1978-1996)(Microsoft Word document)
Researchers from Missouri and New York found that about one of every 100 homicides in Missouri resulted in a death sentence during that 18-year period. Race of the victim and race plus socio-economic status of the defendant were found to be great indicators of who ultimately received a death sentence.

HELP SHUT DOWN the School of the Assassins - Once and For All!

If you are interested in traveling to Ft. Benning for the national convergence at the School of the Americas Nov. 22-23 and would be coming from Mid-Missouri or points southeast of us, you may well want to join the St. Francis Catholic Worker community caravan to Georgia. Contact Steve or Lana Jacobs for more information and/or to contribute toward the campaign (phone 573-443-0096 or e-mail cwgram913@aol.com or sfhcw913@aol.com).

Join 10,000 at the SOA Watch Nov. 22-23
Please join the FORUSA and the Religious Peace Fellowships for a gathering of members and friends at the annual SOA Watch at Ft. Benning, GA, Nov. 22-23. This year the event will be bigger than ever. (See www.soaw.org for more info and for transportation needs).

    - We'll have an OPEN HOUSE along the protest route for informal meetings with other local groups and members, vegetarian meals, coffee, etc., and rustic accommodations (bring your sleeping bags - first come, first served), beginning Friday, Nov 21 through Sunday, Nov. 23 – just look for the FOR banners at the South Gate Apartment Complex on Ft. Benning Road (ALONG THE PROTEST ROUTE).

    - Local FOR groups along with members of Religious Peace Fellowships and FOR members and friends from across the country will walk together in the processional on Sunday:

    - We'll meet as an Affinity Group at 6:30pm Saturday evening at the Howard Johnson (see below)

    - We’ll be at the Latin America meeting (also at the Howard Johnson at 6:00 Friday evening, Nov. 21)

    - We'll have a table so that groups can display flyers. (please sign up at localgroups@forusa.org to help staff the table)

    - Youth from the Peacemaker Training Institute (FOR’s nonviolence training for folks ages 15 - 25) will be participating. Staff members will be on hand to talk about FOR’s Task Force on Latin America and the Caribbean (TFLAC) Colombia Program, and will give information about our continuing nonviolence witness in the Peace Community of San Jose de Apartado, Colombia, including info on becoming a peace witness volunteer.

    - Most importantly, hopefully this year, we'll SHUT the School of the Assassins DOWN! From the SOA literature: “SOA graduates are linked to almost every major human rights violation in Latin America since the school’s inception over 50 years ago. ...more and more people...are standing up and demanding justice - no more murder in our name!”

Come and be a part of this historic undertaking. Contact Lisa Lane at the FOR national office in Nyack, NY, 845-358-4601 (ext.18) or email localgroups@forusa.org wit h questions or to volunteer. Please see www.forusa.org for info about FOR programs. Contact forcolombia@forusa.org (Colombia program) and pti@forusa.org (Peacemaker Training Institute) for more info on those specific programs.
