Local News and Announcements... Don't miss anything...please scroll downFighting for abolition of the death penalty in Missouri? Are you a Mid-Missouri resident, interested in becoming engaged in the statewide, grassroots campaign to help bring about a moratorium on executions in our state? If so, please attend the next public meeting of our local campaign chapter, taking place Tuesday, September 21 from 7:00-8:30 p.m., in Conference Room A on the 1st floor of the Daniel Boone Public Library in Columbia. The campaign would institute a 3-year halt to executions while a balanced commission studies various issues of fairness with our state’s death-penalty system. A brief synopsis of the issues entitled, “What Should We Do About Missouri’s Death Penalty?" is available from the Missourians to Abolish the Death Penalty. You are encouraged to use (and modify) the Missouri Moratorium resolution to approach leaders within your community, place of worship, civic organizations, unions, etc. urging them to pass a resolution calling for a study and halt of executions in Missouri. Equal Justice USA lists the nearly 100 entities in our state and more from around the country which have joined the call for a moratorium. For more information about the Missouri campaign call 1-800-456-1679, ask for Rita, or call the Mid-Mo FOR at 573-449-4585 and ask for Jeff.
