You'll find short summaries below but more information including email addresses (to thank the various legislators) is available at the website for the Eastern Missouri Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty. 1. House Bill (HB) 516, a measure to abolish the death penalty in Missouri, we are delighted to announce, was introduced by Rep. Rodney Hubbard (D-St. Louis, District 58) and co-sponsored by 21 other Democratic representatives. 2. House Bill (HB) 408 was filed by Rep. Sherman Parker (R-St. Peters) to establish a commission to analyze various aspects of the death penalty in Missouri while consequently putting in place a three-year moratorium on executions in the state. Seven GOP and seven Democratic lawmakers agreed to co-sponsor the legislation. 3. Senate Bill (SB) 303, a moratorium bill,-- identical to HB 408-- was filed late in the day by Sen. Pat Dougherty (D-St. Louis). Five other Democratic senators joined on as co-sponsors of the bill. We were unsuccessful at enlisting Republican lawmakers to come on board. No committee hearings have yet been scheduled for any of these bills. We will update you as developments occur. Thank you in advance for taking actions to acknowledge the efforts of the above noted lawmakers. Looking forward to working with you on advancing this cause during the coming legislative session. 0 Comments (perma-link) Email this: ArchivesMay 2003 June 2003 July 2003 August 2003 September 2003 October 2003 November 2003 December 2003 January 2004 February 2004 March 2004 April 2004 May 2004 June 2004 July 2004 September 2004 October 2004 November 2004 December 2004 February 2005 March 2005 April 2005 May 2005 June 2005 July 2005 September 2005 October 2005 November 2005 December 2005 January 2006 February 2006 March 2006 April 2006 May 2006 August 2006 December 2006 January 2007 April 2007 July 2007 December 2007 May 2008 July 2008 December 2009 June 2010 December 2010 January 2011 October 2011 |
